Kishi-sensei was many things to me: An inspirational scientist; an unrelenting warden of quality and progress; a  playful mentor with a sharp wit. He was unselfishly loyal and a master of understatement whose depth of thought and meaning only became apparent to those paying attention. It was this aspect that forged a unique bond of intimacy I had never experienced previously, nor since.

Thank you, Professor Kishi, for giving me the opportunity to join your research group.  I'm proud to be one of your few female PhD graduates.  Beyond chemistry, I learned about hard-work, persistence, self-confidence, and creative thinking.  These are lessons that influenced my career and personal development.  I will miss your fatherly guidance mixed with humor.
