I worked with Steve at Books, Inc. 1985-87. I learned so much from Steve, about books, about history, mostly about how to deal with the crazy public of downtown San Francisco in the 1980's with compassion and a sense of humor. He would take me out to incredible restaurants in Chinatown after closing where I had the best food I've ever eaten. I will never forget Steve. Rest in Power.

I just found out that Steve died.  I knew him from going to meetings at Everybody's Bookstore back in 1979 and 1980. (May Day 80!)  I would always stop in and visit with Steve.  He had so much experience and I loved his sense of humor.  A good man who I know is missed by those close to him.  rest in power brother

When I knew Steve in Sacramento, his gym tee shirt had the name Kong on it but after the Chinese confession program it became Wong. We use to joke about that confusion but it was real because of the Chinese Exclusion Act that made many families like ours take that route. Steve was a genuine person and told things like they were. He was a wonderful storyteller who spoke truth.
