We feel fortunate to have met Owen and enjoyed his company, stories, and humor over dinners and thru his dear friends Jeanne & Paul.
Owen was a true mensch, and also very funny. He was also probably the most knowledgeable person in the field of security studies by a good distance, I'd say. He could talk IR theory with anyone, but also explain how radar systems cue missiles in great detail. And he was incredible genereous with his knowledge.
I met Owen in a national security class at Harvard in 1982. He was an incredibly articulate and well-informed undergraduate who often challenged the professor's arguments. Later, we worked together as editors of the journal, International Security. Owen enlivened every editorial meeting with his incisive critiques of the articles under consideration, his knowledge, and his sense of humor.
