I was saddened to hear the news of John’s passing and my heart goes out to his wife, children, Aunt Pat, Barbara, Jayne, family and friends.  My memories come from childhood when we finally visited our West Coast cousins.  All we could think about was how cool it was we had cousins who lived close enough to go to Disneyland.  Lol.  I remember John was a comic and had us laughing most of the visit. I would guess his knack of making people smile continued throughout his lifetime.  But the story I remember most about John is not mine.  I stopped to spend a few weeks with Grandpa Mooers in San Francisco back in the 80’s and Grandpa talked of many things including the helpfulness of John.  Grandpa also shared that on one of his visits to the Burkman’s, he became aware that little John was afraid of monsters or as Grandpa said “the boogey man” in his room.  So, he told John he would help him get them out with a magic coin (of course it was a silver dollar).  They moved about the room with the magic coin to banish the monsters.  Grandpa gave that coin to John to keep them away and said, “it must have worked as John still has that magic coin to protect him and his family”, and then Grandpa laughed sharing “it must have been the start of John becoming a good boy scout and being prepared”.   May the sweet memories you have sustain you.  Love, Tracy (Mooers) Younce

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I think of the family often even though you do not know me. I do love hearing my aunt Pat's memories of family and it is so difficult having lost another family member . Memories help us cope, I hope you can spend a good amount of time remembering and celebrating the life of John. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. Love Andrea (Mooers) Richmond a cousin across the country but not far in thoughts and love - -
