We were greatly saddened to learn that Dr. McCarthy had passed away.  Dr. McCarthy was my parents and our own family/primary care doctor for the last 30+ years, and we greatly appreciate how rare this has become in medical care.   It is certainly an understatement to say that we will deeply miss his depth and breadth of medical knowledge, care, compassion, and sense of humor - always taking the time to check on how life was going or to share funny life moments.  We extend our sincere condolences to all his family and friends, as well as our gratitude for his dedication and all that he did for us through the years.   Jim and Christine Woodroffe

I was shocked to learn of Dr. McCarthy's passing. Dr. McCarthy was my primary care physician for over 30 years, even after I moved to New Hampshire. He always remembered my family, asked how my wife, son, and daughter were doing, and talked about our dogs. I know the sorrow of losing a father too young; my condolences to his wife, children, friends, and patients. He will be greatly missed!

I am completely heartbroken to hear the news of Dr. McCarthy. He was my Dr. for over 30 years. I loved seeing him.  Always so carting and compassionate. We would often talk about our families and dogs. He was that guy that truly cared. Always greeted me with Hi Kid! He was the best Dr. I ever had and I will never find anyone like him again. I'll miss you Doc. Thanks for being so kind. xo

I don't want to believe it! I, too, am a longtime patient and without a doubt HE is the BEST doctor I've ever had. Happy Trails, Dr. McCarthy! Perhaps we will cross paths, again someday, compare novelty socks and discuss perennial gardening favorites. Rest in peace, My Friend. You deserve it. XO

My family and friends were all shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Dr. McCarthy’s passing. We had no idea that he was ill. He was my doctor for over 30 years, and I still remember saying, “Hi Kiddo,” and later asking me what I was going to do when I grew up, after I retired!  He had such a great sense of humor, but no nonsense when it came to medical care. He was by far, the best!

So sad to hear of John’s passing. He had been my PCP since I met him at the North End health clinic and was such a compassionate and caring physician. He will be greatly missed by his family , co workers and patients. RIP
