Well I remember the many spirited, pleasant conversations with John on the plaza before the U of O Law School all those years ago.  And then the many activities we shared, both at work and out in Nature, while practicing at the same firm.  John was firm in his convictions, solid in his faith, and an all round good guy.  God Bless him and his family.

John was my friend for more than 40 years.  We climbed Denali together, and spent time together on other mountains and glaciers.  There was never a dull moment with John.  We laughed a lot, told stories and marveled at the beauty of this land.  John never had a bad day--he was a man filled with joy.  I am so sad he is gone and extend my deepest condolences to his family.

I was John's sixth grade teacher and remember him well.  He was always determined to do his best.  He respected others so much more than the average sixth grader.  Both he and his sister are dear memories for me as a teacher.

Many years after our years at Turnagain Elementary I was boarding a plane when a grown man hollered out: "That's Mrs. H, my sixth grade teacher".  He came to the aisle, gave me a hug and the folks in the plane clapped.  I love that memory and I loved John Thorsness.  You will always be remembered and loved!  God bless!

I caught my first fish with John as my quide.  And my first and only trip in a sea plane was with John as the pilot.
I feel so fortunate that he shared some of this time with me.  His love for his family was always his first priority.  My heart goes out to his family.

Sorry to hear about John passing.  I worked for him for almost a year and learned much.  He was an excellent trial attorney.  I'll never hear the phrase "subsequent remedial measures" without hearing his voice.  Anytime I bump into a Deschutes Inversion IPA I will drink to John's honor.  Thanks, John, for the lessons.  My best to your family during this time.

Very sad news. I have great memories of John from 5 climbing trips in Alaska,  and from many years as partners together at the Hughes Thorsness firm. Condolences to his family and many friends. RIP.

Friendship with John Thorsness was something to be treasured. I vividly remember so many of the stories he enthusiastically shared with his broad grin and infectious laugh. But it was the kernels of wisdom that followed so many of his stories made him so very special. It was my privilege to have John as a friend.  My most sincere condolences, Gerianne, to you and your family.

Saddened to hear John passed. Came to Alaska to work for his Dad in 1991. John was a mentor and friend. Good guy. Larger than life with a big heart. Positive and upbeat. John brought out the best in people. He will be missed. Please accept our condolences. Gregory Fisher
