Jacqueline Ku was an outstanding teacher devoted to her students and an excellent colleague. Her contributions to the Chinese program were superior. A cordial, hardworking colleague, she will be missed by all who knew her. Farewell to a devoted teacher and friend.
David Orlando, a former colleague.

Jackie was, simply put, a beautiful person. She had grace and style. She was compassionate and caring. A wonderful teacher, When she retired I missed seeing her in the halls of Cowell College. I send my heartfelt condolences to her family.

I was so fortunate to have had Jackie as a Bonny Doon neighbor and as a dear colleague for many years. She expressed such passion and pride in her family and profession. Jackie was a first rate teacher of culture and language.  Her vital presence will be missed, but many fond memories remain.

Gu Laoshi, as I called her was always so unequivocally right and righteous when it came to the Chinese language. No hesitation ever to correct me and no second thought about it either. We didn't meet so often but several of our joint experiences are just lasting memories. She is a person to be missed but she is also free now from a taxing disease and the weight of earthly existence.

I was so saddened to see that Gu Laoshi has passed--I was looking for her address to re connect with her.  I was so fortunate  when she was assisting Professor Bai Xianyong teaching Chinese at UCSB in the 1970s--she was an amazing teacher--we kept in touch for years and lost contact.  I wanted to thank her as I ended up starting up a company dealing with China and my success was due to her

Very grateful for Gu Laoshi, and Peter, who I studied with 1987-1991 at UCSC.  Both wonderful people and wonderful teachers.  I am in the China field to this day, not in small part because of learning with them and their encouragement.  She and Peter suggested we start a China consulting firm in 1992, and I didn't know what to make of it.  Now, that's exactly what I do.  Visionary!

I just recently learned of Gu Wan-ching's passing. I am still devastated by the news.  I studied and lived with Wan-ching and her family in Taiwan in the 1970s.  She is the one who, with strict instruction, made sure I really learned Chinese.  She was my friend as well as teacher. She was an amazing life force, a gracious, energetic life force. I will always miss her.
