My deepest sympathies on the loss of your wonderful father. He once came to San Jose State and dropped into my studio and kindly gave me feedback about my work. It was very thoughtful of him to do so. I never forgot speaking with him that day. He was a master artist and a dedicated kind educator. A beautiful soul. May he Rest In Peace.

One time Howard asked me to stay after class. He said,  "You are an excellent draftsman but you hit your viewers over the head with a sledge hammer. Have you ever considered going into advertising?" At first I felt insulted. But I considered his advise and I DID go into advertising. Howard's advise changed my life for the better. I have thought of him many times over the years. Thank You!

I was never an art student, but had the privilege of attending Howard's showing with my history night class taught by Sandy Lydon.  This was many years ago now, but I have never forgotten the art, person, and stories he shared to our class.  His painting of the "4th of July" and the meaning has forever been passed down to my kids, and students as a teacher myself.  Thank you!
