We are so sad to say farewell to Helene Moglen at Kresge College; she was a tremendous force in this community, which owes her a tremendous debt not only for her foundational work as our Provost, to develop such a rich community here, but in many years since then, returning to our community to remind us of its powerful history, and to help us build new strengths in the present.

I had the pleasure of knowing Helene at some distance, though not without intimacy, through her visits to the Cultural Studies Colloquium, and in our organizing efforts as teachers and learners on this campus in the mid-2000 and later. She is a researcher and writer of possibly unparalleled value in our community, and yet to her personal conversations she brought warmth and love.
