“SHE KNEW MY NAME”
It had been many many years since  seeing Helen. I was just a friend of her daughter-in-law, Carol and I happened to see her eating dinner one night with someone. I thought well I’ll just say “Hi” and reintroduce myself, she looked up and said “I remember you… Marce!” I’ll never forget that, she remembered me, she remembered my name.

What a legacy!

Helen has been a spiritual mentor and friend in my life for over 50 years.  What a gift God gave me through meeting her in a Young Life bible study.  She truly heeded Jesus’ calling of making disciples of all the nations!  She confronted me when needed, we laughed together.

She was so wise!

Helen's godly advice has stayed with me for 38 years. For example, at bedtime she she would take any worries or resentments that had collected like a ball of yarn each day, and unwind them before the Lord, asking His help to forgive and forget and to trust Him with every detail.

Amazing woman of God.
I met Helen as a very young newlywed. She welcomed me with open arms and many hugs. One of my most favorite 'Helenism's was the Armor of God and how when she dressed in the mornings, she would recite each piece as she put on each item of clothing. She ministered to thousands and made you feel you were the most cherished one of all.

Occasionally I have been asked to list/discuss people who have influenced my spiritual growth.  The first person who always comes to mind is Helen Carter.  Over 65 years ago, she was a Jr. High League leader,  a high school Sunday School teacher. a fellow choir member... Her strong belief in knowing and memorizing scripture made a lasting impact on me.

Helen Carter loved God's Word and lived it. It was always on her lips and in  her conversation. It came alive as she had a wonderful way of weaving it into everyday life experiences. It was so beautiful. The greatest legacy she left me was her encouragement to memorize Scripture. We did it together for years with her daughter Tee. Thank you God for the great gift of Helen Carter.
