Dearest Pam, I've read Gordon's obituary, the Wikipedia entry and 'A Conversation with Gordon Pettingill' from Cornell.  Such a mind and such contributions!  My admiration and connection stems from my first hand experience, over the past six years, of his warmth, kindness, and willingness to share himself . He lifted all of us. We are wiser, happier people for having known him.
