Candle lit  by Richard Conte on July 29th, 2022

So sorry to hear about Genho as he used to call himself when we were classmates at Prep.
Gene, Tony Delucia and myself, Dick Conte hung out every school day.
We were jazz fans and would walk through the halls singing a Ray Charles song.
The last time I saw him was in North Beach in the 80’s.

Although Gene and I went to Prep for the same four years, we didn't meet. Our lives connected one night in March of 56, when Gene's Drill instructor marched his Platoon into the swamp, drowning 6. The next morning, Sunday, I found out about Ribbon Creek. As did my Platoon mate and Prep Alumni Ron Sullivan. Years later Gene relayed what happened, and we stayed connected. Semper Fi,

So sorry to hear of Gene's passing. He was quite a guy!  I did not realize he was 85 yrs. old and he was from Connecticut?  I forgot Gene was a Marine and was at Paris Island when the 'Ribbon Creek' drawing happened and he was one of those who tried to save lives. Gene lived a full life and was loved and respected by all that knew him. Santa Cruz will miss you.  Semper Fi.  RIP Gene.

To my biological grandfather who I unfortunately did not get the chance to meet,It saddens me how much I didn’t know about you and how only recently I became curious. You truly seem like such an interesting and accomplished man. It’s nice to read about your life and to know you lived a long one. Rest in Peace. With Love, Gina’s son Bodhi.
