Never a day went by that we didn't ask how Ed Dowd would like it done. As we took care of his property he gave us back great leadership and was a mentor to us. Ed never rejected a call, a question or suggestion. He was always there when you needed him. He demonstrated how one could be stricken with a debilitating illness and still move forward with the compassion and caring for others that very few can show. Ed demonstrated how hard work and sacrifices become success. Ed could grip your interest in the humorous ways of his story telling. From his experiences in the service to the crazy fishing stories. He said once that he missed a lot of things in his life however, he didn't miss out on life. One piece of advice he gave us was to always treat things as they were your own, respect what you own and find at least one joy in each day. He said you´ll never have regrets as long as you don't fear moving forward. His words were powerful to us. One of the things that stood out for us was that he always let us know that he cared and appreciated what we did for him. He always asked if we needed or wanted for anything. He had his moments as we all do. Mostly, he had a loving and caring way that we are thankful and proud to have had the blessings to experience. As we move forward, we will do so, with the intent to fulfill and carry on his legacy. He will be missed very much. Sincerely, Pat and Gary Miller of Rancho Santa Teresa.

Ed often told me "it's easier to make money than it is to give it away".  It felt like a tremendous honor when Ed expressed his trust in the National MS Society by funding the launch of the Edward M Dowd Personal Advocate program.  Hundreds of people with severely debilitating MS have received life-changing support to maintain their independence through this one of a kind service.
