This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Charles Ray Bogle, 72, and known to all as Charlie, who was born on April 20, 1948 and died peacefully on September 5, 2020.

Charlie was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 20, 1948, and graduated from Waggener High School in 1966. He attended Eastern Kentucky University, graduating in 1970 with a B.B.A. in Marketing. Charlie met his wife, Peg, while at Eastern Kentucky University, and they were married on May 22, 1971, giving them over 49 years of marriage.

Charlie worked his whole career in business and marketing, including over 34 years with Raynor Garage Doors of Dixon, Illinois, until he retired in 2015. He was very active in many ministries at Newman Hall-Holy Spirit Catholic Parish in Berkeley for the last thirty years, including being the beloved leader of the Children’s Liturgy for seventeen years, a stalwart member of the building maintenance and grounds ‘fixer-up’ committee, and as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a faithful regular for many years with Night on the Streets - Catholic Worker, helping to feed and shelter the homeless in Berkeley.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Peg, his children, Mark and Clare, his sister, Annette Andrew, and his brothers Phil Bogle and Ron Bogle, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Charlie’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, you consider contributing to the ministry that was very important to him, Night on the Streets - Catholic Worker (501C3). You may mail a donation to Night on the Streets-Catholic Worker, PO Box 11312, Berkeley, CA 94712.

A funeral mass will be held outside in accordance with local health policies on September 19, at 2 pm at Holy Spirit Chapel-Newman Hall, in Berkeley, California. The liturgy will also be available to stream. Check calnewman.org or call to make reservations (required), confirm date/time (poor air quality may postpone), and for streaming information.

Charlie was my college roommate for 3.5 years. I’ll always remember the first time I met him. He was on his bed in Beckham Hall EKU, polishing his weejuns, smoking a cigarette with a tie on. He introduced himself as Charlie “ray of sunshine” Bogle. He will be missed!!!!  Sam Newcomb

I met Charlie 50 years ago when he arrived for a date w/ Peg.  We played Chinese Checkers & I was smitten!  There was so much to love about Charlie.  Always upbeat.  He loved God. He loved  his wife & kids.  He really liked people and brought out the best in them.  Have wonderful memories of Easter weekends, camping, boating & eating great meals. Was blessed to have him as my bro-in-law.

I was always in awe of Charlie's dedication to leading our church group of children in catechesis every Sunday.    I also remember when he was recovering from back surgery at a convalescent facility, and a few of us gathered to have hamburgers on the patio there.  Charlie knew all the other patients by name who were also enjoying the outdoors, a sign of his warm and connective nature.

It was a pleasure, most of the time, to work with Charlie my entire 36 year career with Raynor.  He loved his church and mass planning for his "children". Helping the homeless also touched his heart.  Charlie could talk for hours about his family which he was so proud.  There was always passion in his heart for Raynor and his distributors.  What made me crazy about Charlie?  His driving!

Charlie was my brother-in-law; the fun one who liked toys, watercrafts, and sports. We spent a lot of time talking football, watching football, and yelling at football on the TV. We enjoyed it though especially over Thanksgiving weekends. His specialty was making the turkey, but we lived for the leftover turkey sandwiches with his toppings of blue cheese spread, shallots, cranberry sauce, etc. Also usually made time for some “small” projects like plumbing/sinks, troubleshooting PCs, and shopping for electronic items (flat screen Smart TVs, digital cameras, personal computers) and of course the annual Bogle Christmas Tree. Although always a debate, come Christmas time the tree ended up being better than the last.

I’m really going to miss Charlie.  He was always a pleasure to talk to; an earnest guy with a good sense of humor.  I knew him for 20+ years as a family friend and in all that time he was nothing but friendly and kind to me.  I’m glad Charlie was a part of my life.
