Barbara May Rodriguez (née Boorman) was born on June 21, 1932 and passed peacefully on May 30, 2020 in Bend, Oregon following the funeral of her son John Louis Benevides.
Born in Lakeview, Oregon to Howard Benjamin Boorman and Grace Helen DiChristina Boorman. Her family relocated to Oakland, California where her mother Grace married Louis Marcel Cerez. The family lived on Fitzgerald Street in Oakland next door to the Mattos family where Barbara built lifelong friendships (The Girls from Fitzgerald St). She lived most of her adult life in San Leandro and spent the last three years living in Saratoga, California.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cheryl Benevides Chapman (DOD 12/24/2016), and her son John Louis Benevides (DOD 5/17/2020).
Barbara is survived by her sister Faye Martell; her son Steven Clark (wife Raquel); her daughter Kathy Clark Cleary (husband Bill); her daughter-in-laws Vicky Benevides and Kelly Clark Lanza; her grandchildren Melissa Elliot (husband Scott), Rose Benevides, Emily Clark, and Allison Clark Nelson (husband Daniel); her great grandchildren Corrin Elliot, Heidi Elliot, and Ryean Benevides; her nephew Bill Martell (wife Sue); her nieces Betty Ann Martell, Marlene Martell Makela (husband Dennis); her Godson Tony Millholen (wife Regina); and her cat LuLu.
Barbara was lovingly called “Nanny,” “aunt Bobbie,” “Gam Gam,” or mom. She loved her family, her friends, her neighbors, and her cats. She raised four children single-handedly and worked full-time for Alameda County. She loved gardening, embroidering, and quilting. She was a proud member of the “Young Ladies Institute” (YLI) at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Saratoga, California.
Funeral will be held on Saturday June 26, 2021 at Mountain View Cemetery. Catholic mass in the chapel to begin at 11am. Burial at Mountain View Cemetery at 1pm (after mass). All are welcome...
