Bertha and I benefitted in so many ways, some definable and most spiritual, from knowing Tony and Marylou for over 50 years, for sharing their rare and outstanding professional and personal qualities,  We are grieved by the loss of Tony, gladdened by the wonderful children carrying on his tradition and comforted by  lasting memories of our deep friendship with Tony and Marylou.

The Catholic liturgy intones the line: life does not end, it merely changes. His magnificent spirit and wisdom are in all who were taught by him. He will never leave our hearts and souls as we look after the sick.

A giant as transplant scientist and a giant as a teacher to so many.His kindness and willingness to find compromise in difficult scientific discussions was without parallel.A man so kind that I always felt drawn to him at meetings and any opportunity I had to talk to him.And of course Marylou who was so welcoming to my wife and myself.The world has lost two very special people.
