Dr. Wanda S. Mitchell, 57, of Richmond, formerly of Allendale, South Carolina, died July 31, 2017.  Surviving are her father, John E. Tilley of New York; brother, Dennis R. Patterson of Columbia, South Carolina; two sisters, Bunita Tilley and Lisa D. Tilley of New York; three nephews; niece; three aunts, other relatives and friends.  She was the retired Vice President of Inclusive Exellence at Virginia Commonwealth University.  Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd.  The family will receive friends Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Scott's Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and where a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Omega Omega Service will be held at 6 p.m.. followed by The Top Ladies of Richmond memorial service.  Her remains will be forwarded to B. F. Cave Funeral Home, 1521 Razor Road, Allendale, South Carolina.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 5 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 800 Flat Street, Allendale, South Carolina.  Interment Hope Memorial Park Cemetery, Barnwell, South Carolina.

I am thankful to have known Dr. Wanda Mitchell since she came to the University of New Hampshire many years ago. We shared the same birthday month one day apart and many other aspects of our lives together. I will miss her deeply yet her legacy and spirit will live on in the lives of all of those in her sphere of influence. Thank you God and the Mitchell Family for sharing Wanda with us!!!
