This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Walter "Red" Howson, Jr. We will remember him forever.
Red was a special guy, someone I admired and really liked. He reached out to me and others in a unique and meaningful way- straightforward, and very genuine. Red’s life had significance to many. He had a very strong spirit. His memories can now warm your hearts!
Our best to the whole Howson clan. Paul & Sherry Keefer
On behalf of my classmates in the Yale Class of 1964, I extend condolences to Red’s family and friends. Red had many friends in our Class and will be missed. We mourn his passing and will remember him on our Class Website, in the January-February 2020 issue of Yale Alumni Magazine, and at a memorial service on campus during our 60th reunion in May 2024.

I first met Red when he was living at Elmcroft Assisted Living. He was a good friend to my mother, Bobbie Hayward. He was always so positive and had a lasting impact on my mom. I will cherish the memories I have of them laughing together. Red was certainly one of a kind! Thinking of you Barbara and family.

My first encounter with Red was at a Men’s Bible study. He was one of 12 men who started the group study. He was a man of spiritual depth and his life reflected his convictions. I had the opportunity to see him a number of times at Brandermill. I was always amazed by his sincere inquiry about my life and that of my family. He was a special man and It was a privilege to call him friend
Red or Reddy, as I called him, was my close buddy back when he was at Episcopal and early Yale. I am so impressed by the tribute here. You really captured the essence of what made him such a unique and brilliant combination of thoughtful, intelligent, always caring friend and that unwavering devotion to his family.
