This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Walter D. Fitzgerald, III. 

A lifelong Boston resident, aged 65, Walter passed away on January 6, 2021 due to COVID-19. He is deeply mourned by his children Liam and Fiona Fitzgerald of West Roxbury, MA and his two sisters Joan Fitzgerald of Roslindale, MA and Elaine Greene of Whitman, MA. Beloved uncle to Julie, Andrea, Carolyn and Daniel as well as their spouses and children. Walter will also be missed by his Fitzgerald, McSweeney and Martin cousins. He is predeceased by parents Ann Martin Fitzgerald and Walter D. Fitzgerald, Jr. Proud graduate of Boston Latin School, Stonehill College (B.A), and Eastern Nazarene College (M.Ed.). Retired Boston Public Schools teacher and referee of high-school football, hockey, lacrosse, softball and college hockey. A bright mind, his love of history and all things sports was unparalleled. He will be remembered most for his kindness, good humor and sponsorship. In Walter’s memory, please wear a mask and respect social distancing. Due to the ongoing pandemic, Walter’s family will remember his life in private and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Holy Cross Retreat House at 490 Washington St. in North Easton, MA, 02356.

Walter was a loving father and  a loving friend.  He was a friend of myself (Bill) my wife (Indy) and supporter of my children; Yasha, Douglas, Enuma and Aaron.  We will cherish our memories of Walter and we miss him greatly.

Walter will be sorely missed. He always had a positive attitude. And you felt better just from having run into him. I knew him from my time in Milton and he was a great power of example to others. My prayers go out to his family.

walter and i were classmates at BLS. he was a great guy and fun to be around then and the obit tells me that hadn't changed. when i look at the pictures that are posted i see the same smile and twinkle in his eyes that i saw while we were slogging our way through "Latin".
Liam and Fiona- know your Dad was a good guy and i expect a good father. treasure your memories of him. Peace

Liam, Fiona, Joan, Elaine: Sincere condolences on the passing of your Dad and Brother. Walter “Fitz” and I did many a hockey game over the years. We remember many a Christmas at Maryknoll St   back in the early years!!

Fiona, Liam, Elaine and Joan: Words can never express how sorry I am over the loss of Walter.  He truly will be missed, by all. From the time I've known him since @ the age of 2 or 3, he'll always remain a wonderful guy! First met him when Elaine and I became friends in first grade, @ 63-64 yrs ago.  He was another brother...He loved you all, especially you Liam and Fiona. RIP, Walter
