On behalf of all Kappa Sig brothers at UNCC I am sending prayers and sympathy to Thurmans family. As our first initiate into our chapter almost 50 years ago, Thurman has been an inspiration to around 1000 of us.
I know he has been to me.
Rest in peace my Brother!
It was with heart felt sadness to learn of Thurman’s struggle and passing. What a wonderful fraternity member, a great wonderful man who inspired so many. Rest peacefully Thurman. The struggle is no more. My best to all his family and thank you for sharing him with all of us.
Thurman was one of the very first people I met upon arriving in Charlotte in Sept 1970. I'd never been to Charlotte and knew no one. I understood that the fraternity I got introduced to was planning to be chartered later that fall and become a national chapter. It didn't take me long to realize under Thurman's leadership and choice of prospective brothers, I had a new family.
When my daughter wed Lee, Thurman welcomed my family with loving, open arms and embraced my family with kindness. It’s been a blessing to be a grandparent with Papa T who loved his grandchildren with all his heart. Thurman was a true southern gentleman for the ages and he will be missed by many. Love, peace and comfort to all the Willis family.
Thurman was a friend, fellow student, and outstanding leader. I enjoyed my time with Thurman at UNCC and continued friendship many years after graduation. Deepest condolences to the Willis family. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning
I along with all of my dear Kappa Omega chapter brothers will never forget the great leadership provided by Thurman in the first years of our fraternity. He was a kind, thoughtful and loving brother to us all. When my father passed away in 2005 he called me and let me know he was in my corner. I’ll always remember that.
I want the Willis family to know I share their grief.
I first met Thurman in 1967, so incredibly have known him for 53 years and have so many great memories But no memory is better than having all worked so hard together to establish what became the Kappa Omega Chapter, which set the stage for a life-long brotherhood for our group and so many to follow Thurman has been such a great influence over so many lives thru Kappa Sigma AEKDB Clay
We will miss you Thurman! You were a gracious and wonderful friend and brother. Your hard work and devotion to the chapter you loved and cherished will be remembered and appreciated. Your love of your family and God showed in your everyday life. Your friendship has been so important to me and I appreciated all that you did and the great person you were. AEKDB Brother and see you soon!
This totally breaks my heart. I loved Thurman dearly and he was a precious friend. I have called, text and emailed numerous times for months with no response and could not understand that. Google revealed this heartbreaking revelation. Thurman never failed to uplift me and encourage me during our conversations. The world is a much worse place without him. I will miss him greatly. SAD!!
