In my early career, I was fortunate to meet this amazing man and to receive the many "gifts" of his wisdom that were some of the building blocks in my life. He had respect from all that crossed his path. Thank you T.Z.for all these gifts I know you also gave and shared with so many others. It is an honor to have known and worked with you.
TZ was the General Manager of Varian Aerograph when I joined as an applications chemist. His friendly smile and quick wit were characteristics that I really enjoyed. Later I consulted for him at Finnigan. We discussed the future of LC-MS. Later, I consulted him on several startup ideas. His quick insight was always on target.
I'll miss his quick smile.
I was a mid-level employee at Finnigan for eight years followed by an additional several years as a consultant. I worked at many tech companies in the Bay Area but without question the ambience at Finnigan was different and better. TZ would never fail to smile or speak.
When I was searching online for information on the history of mass spectrometry, I came across articles about T.Z. Chu. I gained an initial understanding of his contributions to the development of the mass spectrometry instrument industry and was also amazed by his legendary life journey from China to India to the United States. As a Chinese person, I am very interested in knowing whether T.Z. ever returned to China later on, or if he had any connections with China. Most importantly, I would like to know his Chinese name.
