A heart of gold, the kindest and gentlest soul I have known, my only sibling and childhood companion, greatly missed will live in my heart forever.
Sohel or Raj as I would call him, was a wonderful human being and I hold dear the memories of times spent together. I pray that his soul rests in peace and he is granted a place in heaven.
I was saddened when I hear of Sohel's death today. As the pediatrician for his children, I knew him well, as he was the one who usually brought the children to their appointments. He was so loving and caring with his children, knowing the intimate details of their health and health challenges. He was in all ways a very involved and concerned father, and always so pleasant to interact with.
Sohel mama(uncle), as I would call him, has been extremely influential in my life. From guiding me on what college to choose for undergrad, to chatting about food and restaurants,he has done it all.I have always looked up to him as a role model, both personally and professionally .I strive to be as good of a person as he was, and make my parents as proud as he made his. Rest in peace.
It is difficult to accept that Sohel has left us. His amiable presence will be constantly remembered. There are so many first experiences with Sohel that I can claim, and they are all special. Soon after Supriya first met him in Bombay and they became better acquainted, I was the first in our family to meet him. We two sisters had a meeting planned, and Sohel asked if he could come along and just be there – he would not crash our plans but just blend in, simply wishing to be near while we were hanging out! That was succeeded by other “firsts”—the forays into Disney World when it was all so exciting, the visit to the Graduate Dean’s office at Fordham University, the first great panic when Shelly wrenched, broke away from our grasp, and defiantly ran away… And again, more recently, Sohel was the first to visit us at our new home less than two years ago. Those threads that knit us in repeating patterns are enduring and strong, and Sohel again taught us to be strong. And the pleasant laugh in his sentences will remain so dear to all of us.
