I visited my penpal Maxine in December 1960. She and Roy were just 6 months married gave me a most fantastic time in Sunnyvale, SFO, etc! Always a treasured memory.
Roy worked at Lockheed but was a weekend Rally Rider so we'd go to Stockton for the sportscar meets. A memory that always brings a smile is when I arrived in their apt, I proceeded to sort and spread all my contents from my huge suitcase onto their living room floor. Roy was sitting in his LazyBoy chair, smoking his pipe, and he said in his quiet manner full of humor, "What an amazing suitcase."
Maxine didn't cook, but said I could teach her. Roy replied, "It's no trouble to eat out. Maxine made a cherry pie once, we nailed it to the wall." I sadly miss Roy but my life has been enriched by his very existence, his kindness, generosity and drt. Roy was 84.
Rest in peace, Roy Dale Massey.
