Bob, you are to me forever young.
I admired you and looked up to you, my handsome older cousin.  In between the lines of your modest obituary lie many years of learning, giving, creating, loving and living.  You had a smile that would erupt unexpectedly and although some might think you serious, you had a wry and wonderful sense of humor.  I will miss you, Bob.

Our cousin "Bobby" was the bigger than life matinee-idol handsome older cousin.  He stayed in the Case family home in La Jolla one summer, and we followed him around like puppies.  He helped me learn to ride a bike (with great patience), and enthralled my older sister with his artistic ability.  A smile gone too soon.

Although  350,000 individuals have been tragically lost. it doesn’t change the heart wrenching loss of  just one- my cousin “Bobby”.  He hated when I called him that, but this moniker harks from a long ago era when I was in junior high school and he the cousin who summered  with us in California over sixty years ago.  My memory of that time,  though, is crisp;  his smoldering, brooding , chiseled, movie star looks and quiet, shy studious demeanor had girls swooning. I even  pretended he was my boyfriend!  He took no notice.

Even then, his interest in art was singular. An easel  held his latest paintings; long walks to Bird Rock with its crashing waves and tideland became his inspiration.  The summer was over and he was gone, all to soon.

And now he is really gone, all to soon. The memory of that long ago summer  will not dim. Nor will the memory of our final  more recent gathering, surrounded by family, laughing and dining together, dim, either. The memory of my cousin Bobby burns bright.

Love,
Francesca  Kelly

To my loving husband,
All of these photos of our early life as well as later , when you were well, are a beautiful reminder of our many blessings.  This is what will sustain me.  Watch down on me. I’ll be waiting and listening until we’re together again.

Rest In Peace Mr. Sloan.
I always admired his extensive knowledge of art and antiques, I recall he was even kind enough to fix a necklace of mine! Thinking of you all, Kerry

I'll always remember Bob's kindness to me at your family functions. We chatted a lot about genealogy research - he had fascinating stories about the founding forefathers of Lyme, NH - his relatives! - and his visits to the area. I will miss his presence. My love to you all.

My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved Bob, or Bull, as many of us knew him when we were young. Bob Sloan, Al Andreola, Dave Ramelli, and I all joined the Marines in November 1956 and were at Parris Island, S.C. for three months. Al and I were in the same platoon, but we saw Bob and Dave from time to time, especially over that holiday period and though we weren't able to sit and chat together, just seeing each other served to remind us of who we were, where we were from, and why we wanted to be Marines. We lived through good times, listened and danced to the best music, worked hard at everything task we undertook, and knew the meaning of true friendship and loyalty to our families, our schools, our town, our country, and each other. Semper Fi!

I met Bob for the first time in 1953 on the  main street in Hollistonwhere we were both, on our own, thumbing to Framingham. As it turned out we were both mostly loners who ended up life long friends with long periods of time when we  had no idea where the other was or what they were doing but always enjoyed our friendship when we hooked up again.
In those days hitchhiking was  common and all the kids did it. On that day I stepped out on the street put my thumb out and waited. Shortly I heard a voice say “ what do you think your doing”. I turned around and there was Bob. At that time I was one of the biggest guys around and he was a lot smaller but he looked me in the eye and explained that I had cut in front of him which was an unwritten rule of the road.I was surprised because I really hadn’t seen him and impressed that he had the moxie to stand up for himself. So, I agreed he was right and suggested we thumb together which he agreed to do. When we got to Framingham I suggested we go to a movie together which was the reason we were both going to Framingham. It turned out that we went to the movies together in both Milford and Framingham on many Saturdays during the time Bob lived in Holliston.  50 years later when we hooked up again we resumed our going to movies again as if no time had passed.
We had some fun adventures during that year but Bob moved to Milford the next year while I went to a Catholic school there  so  while we did not  hang out again for a long time we had forged a strong connection that like a magnet brought us together many times over the years even though we were each on different paths and went in very different directions, got married, had children and careers we kept hooking up time after time.
For some reason I never forgot about Bob during all the years we were on different paths and did not see each other.  I am very happy that we were able to spend time together  in our old age but I wish we could go to one more movie together.

I met Bob over 25 years ago when I started courting my wife Christine. At first he was a bit of a “hard nut to crack” because he seemed more reserved, or maybe it was because I was dating his daughter… but we got to know each other really well over the years and I found him to be a very funny guy in his own dry way. He was a family man who liked to spend his most precious moments with his immediate family, so I had the privilege of being with him for many important events including in his last few weeks.

He loved his historic home in Chelmsford MA, which to me was like a living museum. His appreciation for old things “as they are” carried over to Christine and to me as well. We spent many hours talking about history, art, big band music and old & new movies (He was a regular at the movie theatre and the library). We went to see “A Christmas Story” one year at the old Wilton NH Movie Theatre with the family, and that was right up his alley.

I watched him spring to life when my daughter Clara was born. He looked forward to seeing her every weekend as the highlight of his week. And where before he was creaking around with a cane, at 80+ years of age could be found crawling through one of her pillow forts or playing a game on the floor!

He had a special eye for artistic arranging, matting, framing and placement of art on a wall. Amongst his beloved paintings, he had Clara’s artwork framed and hanging from every corner of the house.

Our tight knit family will miss him very much.

Bob, you’re a good man. Rest in Peace.

Your Son-in-law,

Craig

For my Grandpa,
I am very sad for my Bop Bop's passing. He was a very great grandfather to me.  I miss him very much. He always took good care of me. I can not thank him enough for all his kindness that he did in his life.

My Dad
Shared by:  Jennifer Andrews on 01/30/2021
Robert Sloan is my dad. There is so much I want to share, but it would take volumes. So many memories. So many stories. So many emotions. Instead, I will try and sum up everything and hope it will convey all that I feel.
My dad was a wonderful, brave, kind, self educated man, who could have conversations about so many different topics yet he was never able to see in himself, all that others saw in him. He was an extremely talented artist and had a natural gift of creativity. I do believe most of my artistic abilities came from him, although I'm not nearly as talented as he was, but I am grateful for him passing on those talents.
Growing up, my dad could be tough with his rules, but we always knew they were out of love and to protect us. As a teenager, there were a couple of times he caught me doing something I shouldn't be doing, yet instead of getting yelled at or grounded, it seemed that somehow he just KNEW it was better to say nothing to me, as if it was an unspoken understanding between us, which was more of a lesson than any type of grounding could teach.
I have always been the independent type, sometimes bordering on being willful and that didnt change once I became an adult. I wanted to take chances, and at times, without thinking things through as well as I should have and made my fair share of mistakes (as we all do). As the years went by, I always noticed my dad would bring something to my attention every now and then, but that was it. He always allowed me to go through my choices, even if HE knew what the outcome would be yet he never harped on me or tried to interfere. He had a great understanding that I needed to follow my own journey, despite falling down at times and always moving forward. He just KNEW this is how life needs to be for all of us. Making our choices, good or bad, learning from them (hopefully) and moving forward.
The greatest gifts my dad has given me are these- I always felt love, I always felt safe,  and I always knew he was there for me. It was my dad that gave me the courage to pick up my life and my son, who was only 5 at the time, and leave behind everything and everyone I've ever known, to take that chance and move to the Phoenix area so I could try and give Jesse all the things I wanted him to have. It was the best decision I couldve made and if my dad hadn't given me the courage to take that chance, I would never have met Rob or had the wonderful life I have today. It's because of my dad that I'm here now.
I love you Dad and I know you are still there whenever I need you.
Your Oldest Daughter, Jennifer

Bob would be 84 today, Dec. 3. . Christine and I will be going to the cemetery with holiday greens baskets as he did every year for his Mom and Kathy . Clara has an angel ornament to personalize and place in the basket.  Everyone misses Bob. We speak often of his stories and his spirit is alive everyday in our hearts

I cannot believe it has been one year since your death, here at home.  Everyday since then I have relived some memory of our life, sometimes  with tears of sadness and joy as that is what everyone’s life is about.  I lite a candle in the Jewish tradition given to me by Nancy Bernard.  I say the accompanying prayer and cry a bit more. But I am at peace.

Bob’s only brother Gerald Michael Sloan died May 19, 2022 in Bonifay, FL after  his friend Georgette’s death while they lived in Manchester NH.
I wanted to leave this information on Bob’s page so that Jerry will not be forgotten.  He was a friend to many and so very generous.  His remains were sent to me and we will have a burial at the cemetery in Chelmsford soon.

Bob,  85 today.  You would not want a party like all other years.  But we all remember you with love.  Christine put lovely Christmas greens basket with ornament at the cemetery like you made with each name . Gram, Kathy, Jerry and  Bob. We got out the Christmas items.  Clara helped me.  She was looking over all the things with memories of Grandpa.

It’s been 2 years now since your passing.  My tears have dried and thoughts have changed from sadness to mostly good memories of our family’s events. Those last few days of sadness at Christmas time 2020, have been replaced with wonderful memories of our Christmas past and hope for a good new year

It has been 3 years since you left us Bob.  I remember it as clearly as this morning. I still think I hear you stumbling around and I need to pick you up.  It’s okay though, it is a reminder of you still here in spirit.  Jennifer and Christine are so good to me and you have left a lasting impression on them. Love for another year,  Me

Dad, I miss you everyday. Christmas is always a tough time of year now and we miss the Christmases we've always had with you. I know you are still watching over all of us, especially Jesse. He remembered today was  the anniversary of you leaving and is really missing you. Please continue to watch over him with Kathy. I love you always!

Dear Bob,  another Christmas is over. We were thinking of you at Christine’s house.   Wish you could see how Clara has grown.  I’m glad she will always have a memory of you.
On your anniversary, Dec 27, I attended a wake of a friend here whose husband Bob died last week from very long Alzheimer’s.  I miss so many things about your presence

Hi Dad, today marks 4 years since you've left us and I just wanna tell you how much I miss you. I miss being able to talk to you and hearing your responses to me. You always made me feel better after talking to you about problems or worries I was having, especially about Jesse but I know you and Kathy are watching over him from time to time. Thank you for the "birds"! I love you! Jennifer

December 3 1937,  your Birthday Bob.  The last several years you didn’t want a party or even hardly a recognition of a birthday.  You were always a mystery to us in many ways.  Well right now you are who you should be . A spirit without needs.  I guess that is a good thing to look forward to.  It is a snowy day here,  you wouldn’t be pleased, I still have sweet Emma to talk to. Love Me
