Bobby,
I came to your gym in 1979 as a scared but excited 16 yr young man. Bob's Athletic Club was the pinnacle of greatness. Ed Corney, Arnold..... and you. Bob, You and Ronni and Dave made me feel important when I signed up for the first time. I grew up at Bob's with guys like Mike Clark, Ted Tounger, Steve Belin, George Ritchie, etc
So many others to mention Bob cause I came into the gym late in the game. I heard the stories of Driscoll and the Bank Building. Bob worked for the phone company.... Those of us that came onto Bob's on Maple never looked back!!!!!
I was in trouble in 1977, Bob gave me a job sweeping the racquetball courts and let me work for my gym membership. Bob, Dave and Ronni took me in not only to the business to into their homes. Bob Perata and Bobs Athletics Club were the first place I felt a part of something. I was fortunate to see Bob, Dave & Ronni at the reunion benefit for Ed Corney, a couple years ago. Thank you Bob!
dear Ronnie and David:
I was so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Your gym was the first place I played Handball and am still doing so. You also helped my son Mark in his adolescent years. I will remember Bob fondly. steve Miller
Early 1978 I believe. I was a skinny kid looking to put on a few pounds for the Mission San Jose Wrestling team. I was absolutely lost with those fancy new red and chrome Universal workout machines. So Bob shows me a routine that I still follow today. My goal-to make it into that intimidating heavy room. The one with the 150 lb. dumbbells marked Mike’s Toys.
