Tribute to my dad Bob Lincoln ~ JULY 4, 1930-NOV 24, 2021 ~There are those whose feelings are so deeply visceral that words are few. This was my stepdad Bob Lincoln who adopted me at two. With great gratitude I share my appreciation for his courage to bring me into his life. And am thankful for my sisters and families and his current wife and family who have enriched me too. Dad was spunky, playful and single pointed serious! He taught me to swim throwing me into the pool yelling kick yet came to the rescue. He taught us flips, and jackknives off the high board and how to swim. I learned to slalom ski at 10 in the Sacramento river when he with a grin tossed the ski into the water and said jump in, its now or never. He wasn't kidding. I looked back as I jumped to discover an oil tanker coming down the river as he yelled, get your ski on, you have one try! I got up that 1st time and went on to excel in athletics and dance, I wonder why! Pure adrenaline. All that aside he was born in 1930 during the Great Depression and worked hard for everything he did. He was a self-starter with great fortitude and tremendous loyalty and didn't stop working till the end. Born in Oakland, CA  his family moved to Grass Valley to work in the Gold mine. And with great delight rode a donkey to and from elementary school. Later they moved to Benicia. In sixth grade he was the first and youngest in Benicia to receive the honorable Eagle Scout Award and Order of the Arrow for leadership. His eldest brother was born with special needs and he was forever Arts gallant protector and he continued caring for Art into his later life. He enlisted and served in Korea and when he returned enrolled at SFSU graduating with an Engineering degree. His big break was with Montgomery Roberts firm where he with a team designed the central air and heating for the Bank of America skyscraper in S.F, then the tallest building in town. Eventually he opened a business of his own, Lincoln Air Conditioning Corp which he didn't close down until a year and a half ago at 89. Civic service and charity was high on his list of priorities and he and my mom along with their friends Leigh and June founded the Children's Little Theater. He built the sets and managed the stage lights. There was never a dull moment with all the projects going on~sound familiar?! Dad was playful by nature and my quiet self-reflective mood didn't always appreciate that as a kid. As I grew more tolerance I grew to engage the humor and mid-life my sister Cindy and I created a Batman costume for him. He always enjoyed a good joke. Yet in his final hours my son, his wife and I at his bedside, he opened his heart to the great Light. The electricity filled the room. And with his loving wife Sharon at his side the next day he slipped from his skin and passed through the veil. He was warm when we entered his room and little by little my nephew, his family and niece with hers and sister arrived. In a circle we embraced him and prayed he rest in peace. God Bless you Dad~may your journey be splendid! Now 91 entering the greatest adventure of all.
