Rich and I met while in college over 50 years ago at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio .
We remained in contact ever since, and we had a powerful positive influence on each other”s
lives during our college years. I was fortunate to have a nice phone conversation with him on July 30th.
It is with heavy heart knowing that he is gone.
We had the good fortune to meet Richard – Cousin Richard as he was introduced to us – through Ernie and Millie Mario. Over the years we had many opportunities to join them for dinners and long conversations. We were always amazed by Richard’s depth of knowledge on almost any topic and his keen interest in learning more. We were certain that these qualities greatly benefited his students over the years. Where we really bonded, though, was over our mutual love of travel. When we would get together, and over email, we would discuss where he and we had been and what was next. The pandemic, very sadly, put a long delay into his plans. We know how eager he was to get back on the road. There was so much he still wanted to do and see. We will greatly miss Cousin Richard, his wide smile, his sparkling eyes, and his big hugs.
Lasting memories for sure. Richard made an indelible mark on my life around 1971 when I first met him. The experience of his guide around San Francisco is deep in my memory and never forgotten as well. Rest in peace dear Richard. I wish that I had been able to locate you before reading this obituary, but you will live on in my heart and memory.
Richard, we were so lucky and grateful having met you when we came to CA in 1983 and remained in touch since then. You helped us getting started in the new environmet and were always not only an pleasant company but an inexhaustible source of inspiration with a pile of hints on travel destinations in CA and countries all over the world.
In immerwährender Erinnerung, Ursula Adi Eva
Richard was my best friend growing up in Clifton, NJ. Remember long conversations on almost every topic under the sun. Met again in San Francisco early 1972 & renewed friendship; but later I moved away & we lost contact. Often think of him and am terribly sad he is gone,
