This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Rev. James Skehan. We will remember him forever.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of dear Fr. Jim. He was our “Cupid” who introduced us on the Harvard Worcester Coal Mine field trip in 1967 and attended our wedding in Groveland in 1975.
He was a peerless mentor and counselor. May his memory be a blessing to all.

He was a giant. He was a terrific mentor, who led me and a group of folks through the Ignatian exercises, so when I left Boston College as an undergraduate dean at BC I invited him to St. Joseph's University to help set up a similar program for lay people at St. Joseph's. He welcomed you into his midst whether you were Catholic or not, and I learned a great deal from him.
Fr. Jim and I were wonderful friends. I was hired as the first Director of the International Office so he and I interacted quite a bit to resolve many different kinds of student and faculty issues. He always brought his sense of humor with him! Oh the conversations we had...The laughter was/is memorable.
How appropriate that he would go home to God on the Feast of All Saints. He qualifies for membership in this body for sure. . He was always so gracious, so helpful.so remarkable in so many ways Space and time do not allow specifics. May he be resting in God's eternal peace. Sister Mary George O'Toole and Sister Joyce Mahany
Father Jim changed my life. He renewed my faith in the church and my faith in myself. We worked together in the field for several years and I had the privilege of watching him help numerous people. Once listening to the song,"Que Sera Sera" he said, "Nice song. Terrible philosophy." He never missed a teachable moment. Enjoy your reward, good and faithful servant.
Father Jim combined his love of geology and his faith in a way that changed the lives of his students! He served as my mentor and helped me find my way as a geologist. He also officiated at my marriage and thought it fitting that we should be married by 3 Jesuits!. Such wonderful memories I have. May you rest in God's peace.
Father Jim! So sad to hear about his passing- he was my 1st mentor in geology at Boston College and inspired me to become a professional. A "tremendous" leader in the field for professional and academic geologists, His contributions can't be over estimated. A man of science and the Faith, a true Jesuit.
Father Skehan was my fathers mentor, dear friend and graduate advisor at B.C. in his Geophysics studies. I am forever grateful for taking my father, Michael Peerzada, under his wing. He was a giant in his life and I had the honor of meeting Father Skehan in 2017. We talked about his B.C. days and what he shared with my father as much as he could speak. Rest in peace - Aliya Peerzada
