When we were children, Rayna was the free spirited aunt who changed her name and moved away from rural Hanover County to places more exotic. As a young boy I remember thinking, "who would do such a thing and what secret adventures did she have?" And then in my early adult years, I followed the same path. Just a couple of weeks ago in a hospital room in Minneapolis, Rayna inspired me again. She fought to the end. Despite the pain, she never quit and never gave up on life.

Rayna was always so thoughtful and giving. I remember that she took a train alllllllllll the way from Minnesota to Virginia to dog sit for my mom (her sister), so we could attend my brother's wedding. She was not able to fly, but that did not stop her! That spirit of overcoming adversity is what defined Rayna. And she fought courageously to the very end and never gave up.
