My first introduction to Joy was a lovely, large green t-shirt with Shalom written on it. from the college that she taught at. That showed me her wicked sense of humor. I still use it to garden in:). Otherwise, I have a feeling that her tenacity and feistiness were behind her wonderful daughter's development. Thank you to my name twin, Joy
Joy was a wonderful lady, wife and mother. I got to know her after Tracy started going to Kenyon in 7th grade. Tracy and I became good friends but that was also when I discovered the wrath of Joy. Don't get me wrong she was always nice and fair but you did not want to make her mad or you would spend Sat. mornings cleaning. Her house and yard were always immaculate . R.I.P. Joy!
I was trying to decide how to respond to this sad news, but perhaps I will use it to give a shout out to those who find it in their hearts to embrace all students...even those who are not always easy to love. St. Olaf is a place where we can honestly say we embrace and give extraordinary care to our students, but in truth, some are easier than others. Joy was one who found a space and a place

I chose to have The Broken Chain read at my Mom's funeral almost 5 years ago. I read it at the graveside service for my mother-in-law just 3 weeks ago. This gives me such comfort to know we will be together again. Not a day goes by that I don't miss my Mom, but I know our family chain will link again. I posted it in the STORIES section as it was too long.
Tracey, you introduced me to your mom long-distance, begging her, most likely, to help me with a survey project back in October, 2006. Over the course of a few months, I began to realize just where your wit originated. 'Mom' was amazing in every sense of the word. I can only imagine how she will be missed, and by the many she touched in her life - she was called Joy for a reason!
My Aunt. My Godmother, made me cookies when I played the Godmother card and mailed them to me at 40 years old.... Gave me my first 1/2 of a beer with my taco dinner at a very young age. Forced me to eat beets at thanksgiving - gross! Was there when my husband swallowed a bee... many memories, you will be missed. Love you...
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night, Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I never met your Mom but I felt like I knew her. She was lucky to have a daughter like you. May she rest in peace.
