This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one,Mitsuko “Mitsy” Buxmann, (1946-2021)

Mitsy (74), passed away peacefully at home, on January 8th, 2021. She bravely battled with Lou Gehrig Disease (ALS) that she was diagnosed with on (December 27th, 2018). She leaves behind her husband (George), just shy of 52 years. She also leaves behind, her son (Aaron), grandson (Justin), two half-sisters (Kathy) and (Terry), brother-in-laws (Jerry) & (Greg), grandson Justin, several cousins in Colorado, along with nieces and nephews located in Michigan and Texas.

Mitsy was born on the Island of Okinawa, where she lived her early years. The daughter of an Army Warrant Officer, she was a world traveler. She moved and lived in the state of New Jersey; Augsburg, Germany; Seaside, California; and back to Okinawa, Japan.

Mitsy graduated from Kubasaki High School in 1966. Upon graduation, worked for the Department of the Army, Civil Service, while remaining on the Island of Okinawa. Upon meeting and dating a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, they married in the month of February, 1969. Again, she traveled for years, with her husband, while he served in the military, and lived in New York, Delaware, California, and Oklahoma. After the honorable discharge of her husband, they moved to a condo, located in the city of Milpitas, California.

Mitsy applied at Franklin-McKinley School District, for a job opening in 1977.  She was hired as a secretary, serving in the Principal's Office at Franklin School. She worked her entire carrier at Franklin-McKinley, for a total of 35 years. During her school career, she met many lifelong friends. One of those close friends stated that “Mitsy was loved by all.” Mitsy was a kind, loving person, who gave her all, in order to satisfy the needs of those, who requested her attention. She never refused anyone in need of help. If a parent came into the office, with a complaint, she always had them leaving, with a smile. Mitsy helped everyone, whether it be a child, who got hurt on the playground, and needed their injury attended to, or a teacher that was in need of school supplies for their students. She typed up newsletters and notices, that would go out in different languages, to parents at the direction of the school Principal and staff members. Mitsy, linguistically speaking, took three years of French in high school. She knew some German, from living in Germany for 3 years. She knew some Spanish, as many of the children that attended Franklin School, were Hispanic. She could speak Okinawan and Japanese, but English was her forte. Many of the Franklin students took the school bus, to commute to and from school. It wasn’t uncommon for a student to miss the bus. Mitsy would stay beyond her normal work hours with the child, who missed their ride home. She would contact the parents and stay with the child, until the parents arrived. Mitsy retired with the joy of having worked with teachers, project specialists, secretaries, nurses, and students in 2012.

Mitsy played Tennis for many years, as a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and participated in local club tournaments (Milpitas Tennis Association). She competed in women’s doubles, mixed doubles, and team tennis, Mitsy was a big San Francisco Giants fan, and took CalTrain, with her husband, to see some of the home games, before coming down with ALS. She watched and followed the Giants, and World Tennis Professionals play, on a regular basis. She watched the 3 World Series Championships, on a big screen TV, and never missed a Grand Slam Tennis Tournament. Mitsy also loved to sing Ballad music, with a Karaoke machine, on a regular basis. She also sang Christmas songs to the children at Franklin, almost every year. Over the years, she also did gardening, crochet, sewing and folding origami. Mitsy loved dogs and enjoyed walking her own pet dogs around the neighborhood, while connecting with her neighbors (and their dogs). Mitsy enjoyed life and what it had to offer. Her caring, loving, compassion for others will never be forgotten. Unfortunately, Mitsy didn’t have much of a chance to enjoy her golden years.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation on behalf of Mitsy to the ALS Association Golden West Chapter (www.alsagoldenwest.org) to help find a cure for this devastating disease.

There will be a Celebration of Life, when everyone has received their vaccine for the CORONA VIRUS. Information will be provided at this WEB SITE. Mitsy will live in our hearts, forever!

Mitsy and I started working together in 1977. In her ability to work, she was excellent. We became dear friends instantly. Her character was honest, kind, loving, and giving. I loved her dearly and I always will. I know her husband, George, took wonderful care of her. I admire that and I am sure Mitsy was very thankful. See you in heaven Mitsy. Love, Beverly.

I met Mitsy when I was in high school. She worked in the office at Franklin Elementary School. She was beautiful and the kindest person ever. Her gentle spirit made you feel at peace. She had a lovely voice and though shy about public singing, shared her gift at my mother’s retirement party. I look forward to our reunion one day in heaven. All my love, Junie ????

I enjoyed working with Mitsy at Franklin. As a food service worker I would occasionally need help from the office and Mitsy was always helpful. We shared our love for dogs and would have great stories to share. After she retired I looked forward to when she would come back to sub so we can share more stories. Miss you

It’s a privilege having neighbors like Mitsy and her husband, George.  Mitsy was such a kind and gentle person.  I’ll miss encouraging conversations she had with my daughter, I’ll miss seeing her doing front yard work, and I’ll miss seeing her and George taking their night walks. I wish I spent more time to get to know Mitsy more, but I will treasure the moments we had in my heart.

I recall Mitsy setting the office tone at Franklin School, by being professional and hospitable. When I arrived for my interview, Mitsy was kind, warm and inviting. Through the years, Mitsy was extremely helpful and always willing to answer any question no matter how busy she was. She juggled so many tasks calmly. I will cherish all the Japanese treats she would graciously share with me.
