This memorial website was created in the memory of our loving husband, father, and Pop Pop, Michael Flaherty, born in 1940 and passed away in 2018. He tried each day to make the world a more loving place, both for those who knew him, and for those he only briefly met. He taught us that when someone is unkind there is only one way to respond: with love. Even when it’s the last thing we feel like doing. He would want that to be his legacy.
I did not know Michael well, but have fond memories of carving pumpkins with him in Chicago. And have always enjoyed listening to Molly's stories about growing up with him. Molly, I wish you and your family much comfort in the days to come. May your memories ease your pain and bring you joy.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you gain some solace in knowing that his presence was truly "larger than life." I will fondly remember his great delight in his grandchildren.
Michael brought joy and laughter into my life but much more importantly he taught me to show love to others even when they were not loving in return. RIP my favorite brother in law. I will miss you more than words can express. ??
I worked with Michael at Barnes and Noble. He was one of my favorite people. He was immediately available to help anyone and was one of the most engaging and intelligent people I had the privilege of working with. He is and will be missed.
Michael was a very special guy. I was lucky to get to know him pretty well over the years as I visited his daughter, Molly, often. He had a unique ability to make others feel comfortable and at ease. He was friendly, kind, smart, and someone I always enjoyed seeing. I know I will miss him and I can't imagine how much he will be missed by his family.
