I just learned of Meryl’s death. I loved her, learned from her, laughed with her, reminisced with her, shared a love of reading and words and stories and family with her. Together we could not tolerate cant and pedantry and pompous behavior—it was ridiculous. I will miss her tremendously. She was a force in the world. May her memory be a blessing.
