Growing up, Special Forces guys like Melvin were my heroes. I read about his first combat HALO jump. Fascinating. Why doesn't the media do stories on great Americans and heroes like Melvin, especially in the Black community? My condolences to Melvin's family and my gratitude goes to Melvin and his service to our nation. I never met Melvin, but I will remember his story.
Although I’m only seeing this post regarding a Great Friend of mine two years later, I wanted to add my words. I met Mel in 1972 at Fort Devins Mass, where he was part of 10th GROUP. I had been to Vietnam and back by those days, but Melvin Hill became A GREAT FRIEND of mine as we stayed in touch during the 1980’s. Rest in Peace, my Brother, YOU were one of a KIND !
