Marylyn was my older sister. I remember her teaching me some dance steps. I grew up in the 50s, so rock and roll was pretty new and very cool. She loved to wear swirly skirts, colorful sweaters, a little scarf around her neck, and penny loafers. I recall the gorgeous blue taffeta prom dress Mom made for her. Trimmed with lace, it made her look so lovely. I miss her! Love, Cecelia
Marylyn (Mellen) was the oldest of the six of us & I'm the youngest. 22 years between us. I remember her sitting on Mom's bed and asking me if I understood who she was - I said "oh sure you're my Sister", not really understanding. Mellen was calm and comforting toward me - like a mother to me. I feel like her children are my siblings and my heart goes out to them with love and prayers.
Marylyn was the pioneer among us kids. She got excellent grades in school. (I saw some of her report cards.) She played trumpet for a while at "DS High," and she always joined us siblings when we sang Christmas carols in 4-part harmony. She was resourceful and determined, raising 4 children essentially by herself, and on a shoestring. I always admired her strength, intelligence and style.
Aunt Marylyn, in my eyes, was always classy and cool. I loved the way she dressed and admired her love of high heels everywhere. I missed the whole family terrible when they moved away but enjoyed telling people I had relatives in California. She did what she had to in life- a tribute to her strength and continued legacy of inspiration. You are missed Aunt Marylyn! (see stories)
Nana,
It is quite rare to behold a being living their truth in such pure authenticity. It was an honor to see and know you. You lived this life on your own terms. A brave, independent, creative, free spirited soul with the best giggle. I am grateful for your real life example of feminine strength. I Love you and miss you. xo, Christina
Still missing mom, so many questions. I'm glad the pain is over, cherish memories, share some of her quotes, advice, but the world really has lost one of its brighter lights. Mom, you always saw the best in people, even when not obvious. You blessed us with your love. I miss you, think of you often, everyday. I love you
Over two years later I still miss you more than ever. I miss your warmth, our daily talks, your hugs, smiles, caring & ability to always see the best in people & situations. Your sense of wonder and adventure, style. Your inquiring mind. Your love & very presence. Your honesty and huge heart. I miss you mom and always will. I was so blessed to have you in my life.
Nana, In Heaven.
