You were an awesome uncle and I loved you very dearly. As a child I always got so excited when we would come to your house for a weekend during the summer when all of our family would get together. We had so many wonderful memories that I will always cherish and one day tell them to Savannah. I know she would've loved you so much. Rest in peace and watch over us. I love you very much! xo
When a close friend of mine was going through some hard times, he (my friend) made some facebook posts talking about his depression, hinting at suicidal thoughts. Martin reached out to me, and to my friend, lending him some wonderful advice and comfort. This is someone Martin never met, couldn't possibly have known... just a "Facebook friend of a friend." And yet he took the time to help this essentially anonymous person. It meant a lot. I'll never forget it.
For several years our offices shared a wall at Central State Hospital and so we shared many great conversations. You were witty and generally a pleasure to be around. You proofread my reports and appreciated my writing style, which was the reassurance I needed as a young professional. You touched my life professionally and personally in those few brief years. Thank you for being you.
First time I met Marty was at Alex's first birthday party. About 4 years ago. I was invited in and made to feel at home and part of the family. There was bourbon. Last time I saw him was at the after christmas dinner about 5 months ago. He cooked salmon with David because they knew Pattie could eat it. He made people feel comfortable and was always friendly. I will miss him him.
Marty was my right-hand man at work for four years, and a trusted colleague for many more. I could always count on him to bring some much-needed humor to work. He loved his family and his dogs with such intensity. He beamed with pride whenever he spoke of his children and especially his grandchildren. I will miss him, and send my deepest condolences to his much-loved family.
Marty was a consummate professional and a deeply good and honorable man. He was profoundly proud of his family and so could talk with equal enthusiasm about gardens and submarines. Marty's humor and wisdom will be sorely missed. Jill and I offer our condolences to his family and many friends.
Marty was a true mensch. He was my go-to guy at work for navigating a system that Kafka himself could have devised, or just to commiserate about the frustrating absurdities of life in general. I will sorely miss his wit; his fondness for Star Trek; his stories about terrifying nuns; his Buddhist-inspired wisdom. Rest in peace, good sir. I have been - and always shall be - your friend.
I had the good fortune to work with Marty for many years, initially when he supervised my clinical internship training and later as a trusted colleague. He was a warm, generous man and he taught me so much. I will miss his wit, wisdom, and friendship very much. To Marty's family, know that his love for you was unending and he was never happier or prouder than when sharing stories of you
Marty’s office was across the hall from me when I started at CSH. He was always eager to help even as he stood at his computer amidst floor to ceiling stacks of paper that undoubtedly would have raised the fire marshal’s eye brows. He was as impressive a conversationalist as he was a professional. Thank you for inspiring creativity in finding out of the box solutions to lasting problems.
Maria and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are so terribly sorry for your loss. The tributes prove his dedication as a husband, family man, friend and colleague. His legacy will continue through the love he shared with others. May God bless you and comfort you.
Marty was absolutely the best dressed doc on the campus. I loved the shades and the colors he would wear(especially the purple). He would always say " thank you, my wife dressed me". I would reply" she has excellent taste". Marty was a great co-worker, a great mentor, an excellent gardener and a great man who truly loved his family. Rest easy my friend you will be missed.
I have many fond memories of Marty, most of them involving good food a good booze. Marty made the best Bloody Mary. I spent weekends at the Bauer's, eating the most delicious food you could imagine; Marty behind the grill, even in the rain! He was a gentle soul and so damn smart. I'm honored to have known him. Even though we lost contact, I will always think of him as family.
A very special colleague who will be missed deeply.
I worked with Marty at CSH for the past 4 years. He would always give me encouraging words, and always tell me how I was doing a great job (even when I felt I wasn't doing a great job). He had a way about him to make you feel good about yourself, especially during the times when you really needed it. I will truly miss him. My prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
I worked with Marty at both ESH and CSH over the years. I admired his professionalism and skills as a psychologist. He was funny, intelligent, and I loved the way he looked at the world. Even though we no longer work together, I saw him a couple of months back when I was back at CSH for training. He was still the same. He will be missed.
Dr. Bauer you will be missed in our department. I really enjoy the wisdom you share over the years while working with you at CSH. This seems so unreal but God needed you more so rest easy Marty. My prayers are with your family at this difficult time
Uncle Marty you are truely loved and missed. I always enjoyed visiting you and the family in Virginia. I would always look forward to the next meal you prepared for us because you were an awesome cook. You had a great sense of humor and I'm sure you are making everyone laugh up in heaven. Until we meet again rest easy. Love you!
From Roger and Roberta Abell: We only met him once, we remember Alex's 1st Birthday, all the food they made, playing in the pool trying to catch or being missed by all the flying inflatables & after Alex went to bed we all sat around the dining table & got smashed on wine. That's a pretty good memory considering he kept saying "try this one I think you'll like it"
We remember Marty & Maria both as being a very loving, caring, trusting, & entertaining, family who opened their hearts & home to us as we all shared our first grandsons birthday together with alot of family & friends.
I am very sorry to hear of Marty's death. I worked with him at Eastern State and enjoyed his sense of humor, and respected his dedication to his clients. My sympathies to all his family and friends for their loss of a great man.
