I had Mr. Johnke my junior year in HS (1969). He was one of many great math teachers I had at CHS. While I majored in Economics, my math background helped me excel in my major and in statistics classes. Very grateful, went on to be a college professor.
From Peggy Baron (caregiver and friend) as Martin was in hospice : Hi all , As I sat with Martin today , I could not help but think of how Martin's hands built so many things and to hear in the background the hammering and sawing . I smiled at the comfort that must bring him in anticipation that heaven is putting in an addition for him. Peace be with you all.

I have many many wonderful memories. If you didn't learn something from Uncle Martin, you weren't listening. He actually taught me how to wash dishes properly. Yes, there is a proper way. I still use it. I think my heart will be very heavy for a long time.

Amen to all of the above. Martin was a good friend. He will be missed by us all. My deep condolences to all the family,

I love him and miss him already. I was telling Peter that your mom and dad were so encouraging when I moved to DC. I loved Uncle Martin's stories about growing up in Flatwillow. And as a kid, I especially loved visiting your parents. I thought they were so intelligent and classy. I loved the way they loved each other, too, and still do.

Loved your Dad. He was like a father to me for the years we were housemates in SF. There wasn’t anything he didn’t know how to fix. He was smart & kind and his good deeds will live on.

Today was supposed to be my Uncle Martin’s memorial service, but due to COVAD19 it will be postponed to an unknown future date. My Uncle was the KING of puns, and I thought I would share this Top 10 list. Feel free to add your favorite puns …..
Uncle Martin, because of your smile, you have made life more beautiful for all of us.

One of a kind! His smile always could light up a room and he always reminded me of grandpa.

We were greatly blessed to be around him. It is hard to explain but being in his presence made me feel good.

Yes number 1 was my favorite! Especially if you have ever ridden with Martin! I’ll never forget driving to Oakland with him we were going to bend sheet metal for one of his rentals! We did 45 the whole way down the freeway in his old truck took us like 6 hours! all of the horns fingers and everything else never even fazed him. I still think about that summers I spent woring for him and how much I really did enjoy it!
