Leroy Schwafel was a gem of a man. I don’t think I’ve met very many as kind, generous, patient and nice as he was. He was the calming balance during many Boy Scout cycling “adventures”. A true gentleman with a heart of gold. He left a lasting legacy of which his family and friends can be proud that he was part of their lives.
Sending an invisible hug from your family in Oregon.
To Leroy who gave the best bear hugs ever! Rest in Peace with the Angels!
Leroy, a kind, loving, strong, proud and incredibly faith-filled man who loved his family, our country and our Lord. Kathy and I remember his Pendleton visits, our Christmas visits to SJ, Midnight Mass, the donut & ice cream shop, calling us "Kido's", his smile, the twinkle in his eyes & his happy and easy nature. He made everyone feel safe and loved. We were all blessed by Leroy's love.
Our beloved cousin, Leroy! My sister, Maureen, and I recall wonderful Christmas visits with Leroy, Nana, and family! Hot summers in San Jose at Nana Schwafel’s—when Leroy would bring home an iced-cold jug of A&W root beer! Ah, the best! Leroy gave great hugs, much love, help, caring, and true compassionate listening to others! Mt. 25:21 “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Love you!
I had the pleasure of serving the Lord with Leroy as an Usher at St. Martin of Tours in San Jose. Just a remarkable man. Loved his wife, Anndora, always talks about his son Andrew and his grandson. A true family man, and a loving person. We would always joke around after church, saying “See you later, God willing” Heaven definitely got another angel! Leroy, you will always be remembered.
The world is a little less bright without Leroy!! He never turned down a conversation and always had a funny quip when our visits ended. He is missed by all!
Some of my fondest childhood memories come from the Schwafel house. Going to visit Andrew I knew I would always be welcomed by Leroy and Anndora. And I laugh now thinking about how Leroy's deep voice used to scare the bejeezus out of me :), but I always felt warmth and love from him. I'll always remember you in my heart Leroy.
Happy HEAVENLY 87th birthday dad.
I'm missing you every day Dad.
Jacob asks about constantly. I know i must not have always been easy to raise. I don't know how you and Mom did it. Thank you for everything you ever did for me.
