Lenny has kept me sounding good for more than 50 years.
I bought my German flatback in 68’ put on Spiro’s and took it to Lenny for a set up. 10 years later he carved out the original Bass bar and put in a new one, still playing it. I loved going down South for sound post adjustments, etc. Lenny was the greatest. Thanks, Rich Appleman
Lenny was amazing - he could make a bass sound great just by a little tweak here and there - he saved me on so many occasions!
I will always remember going down to Marshfield - often spending a couple of hours rapping and learning while he worked on my bass I really miss those days. John Lockwood
Lenny was just a wonderful, sweet human being with a terrific sense of humor. As a guitarist I played numerous gigs with him. He was a fine musician and great fun to be around. He'll be missed. My sincerest condolences to his family.
Lenny - a great guy, a great musician, a great luthier, a real mensch. It is my privilege to have known Lenny as a fellow musician and friend.
Len was one of the first people I met after taking up double bass. Those trips to Marshfield were an education. He put up with a lot of questions and did quite a bit of work to my bass.
I respected Len and feel the world is a bit less because of his absence.
Julia, Jeremy and family,
I was thinking of your dad yesterday. We have new neighbors and the son is a cellist. It made me think back to our childhood days in Marshfield and your dad working in his shop. Building and repairing bass.
I looked up your dad and I sadly saw that he had passed.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending my sympathies.
My father, Jim, often bought a vintage bass in who knows how many pieces, and there was only one man he'd ever trust to do the repair work. I was maybe ten years old and always enjoyed seeing this kindly repairman and looking at the mysteries in his shop. Now, more than 20 years later, I still remember the master at work.
