Great-Uncle Lamar shared his love without reservation or expectation. He was the most gentle soul I have ever known with tremendous passion for the Lord, life, and his family. I will miss his southern hospitality, genuine spirit, and the way he made you feel like the most important person in the world. I have no doubt he was greeted with "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
Uncle Lamar stories always brought a sparkle to my mother's eyes. Margaret Williamson Smalzel passed on to me these stories, and one of his essays about the Hill. I treasure these fond memories.
