This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Karin Winnard, 60, born on April 23rd, 1956 and passed away on September 1, 2016. We will remember her forever.
There will be a memorial celebration for Karin at San José State University in the Spartan Chapel on October 9, 2016 from 1-3pm. As many of you know, Karin loved tradition and the end of semester celebrations. She often asked us to wear certain colors in keeping with a theme. Her favorite color was purple, so to honor Karin if you have purple, wear something with purple in it. -- Deanna
I am a teacher and was a tutor in her program at SSU for 2 years. She taught me so much about tutoring and life. She was both a mentor and a friend.She opened my mind to the LGBTQ+ community even before it was called that. I am not sure what made me think of her today, but I was sad to learn she passed away. She was a major influence on my life at a critical time. She lives on through me .

I remember she gave me the choice of becoming a tutor or a mentor. I chose mentor even though she recommended I become a tutor. She needed more tutors at the time, but I had a feeling that navigating through life was what I wanted to show others. The reason: she showed me how to navigate my own life. What a gift. I miss you, Karin.
