To Cora Sue and the Family,
My deepest regards and condolences to each of you. Joe was a bastion of support and help for a fledgling and struggling new Methodist pastor in town.

Judge Spruill will always be remembered as a person committed to the welfare of his community. A strong intellect, an abiding compassion for others, and a genuine sense of humor were hallmarks of his which will be greatly missed.
I was 12 years old when I had my first baby sitting job and it was for the Spruill's first son, Jay..they were wonderful to me, and, I'm sure it helped that my Mother was right across the street if I needed help!..I do remember thinking what a great couple they were..he was so handsome and Cora Sue was just beautiful..my sympathy to the family.. Jay: my sincere condolences on this great loss. Your father was one of the very best. My best to you and yours. Arthur
Dear Cora Sue and Family, Barbara and I were saddened to learn of Joe's passing. I consider it a great honor to have been his colleague as a Virginia Circuit Judge and to consider him a friend. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Sincerely yours, Shore Robertson
I called several months ago and Joe said come and see me. I regret putting that off. Williamsburg is not that far. Cora Sue and family, your Capon Springs friends will dearly miss Joe's warm personality, great sense of humor, golf matches and a few un-judgelike jokes. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
