John was a giant of knowledge about perfins and precancels. He enjoyed sharing his expertise with collectors and philatelic organizations, and was my best stamp friend and mentor for over 45 years. He is missed greatly by friends and stamp collectors.

I was John and Virge's chiropractor for over 20 years. John's back was terrible due to pouring himself into the stamp books for years. Truly, two of the kindest and generous people I have ever had the good fortune to serve. They even lured me over for dinner to talk stamps! Sorry to hear of their passing and I will say that John and Virge truly enjoyed life, they are missed.
