Mr. Melendez left an everlasting imprint on the hearts of many. I was one of the privileged kids that had him as school principal at Blacow Elementary. To this day, I share how special he was to our school community. I will never forget his annual read aloud of “The Giving Tree”. After giving so much, May you Rest In Peace Mr. Melendez.

I recall Mr Melendez very fondly from my Vallejo Mills elementary school student years. He taught us how to become very proficient at learning the Dewey decimal system. Before school, he ran a scavenger hunt in which one book would have the next book’s DD#. The last book would contain a dollar! I remember winning a lot :). So glad to discover he had a wonderful long and loving life!

John and I were classmates at Hayward High School and roommates at San Jose State for our first year in college.  On holidays we often traveled to various parts of California.  John was a very good friend and I very much enjoyed our times together.  I was pleased to meet Carmen at the time of our fiftieth high school class reunion.  Remembering a loving friend.

I had the pleasure of him being the principal for my years at Blacow from 1978-1986. He was always kind hearted and always wanted the kids to succeed. He only wished  to you to see him when you were good not when you were bad. He oversaw the school with a firm but loving hand. He is dearly missed!
Thank you and my condolences for your loss.
