Jeanne Crippen passed away peacefully on May 1, 2018 at her home in the Oakmont Retirement Community in Concord, CA at the age of 95. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, attended the University of Michigan and University of Toledo majoring in art. In her early 20’s, she moved to Los Angeles living with her aunt, Mildred Long for several years before settling in San Francisco. Jeanne enjoyed 30 years living in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco and working as a display artist in the Art Department of Sears when poor health forced her into early retirement and she decided to downsize to a smaller home in Martinez, CA. While living in Martinez from 1990-2005, Jeanne enjoyed the friendship of her neighbors and was active with the Martinez Senior Center where she helped design and build artistic stage sets for plays. In 2005, Jeanne moved to the Oakmont Retirement Community in Concord where she lived for the past 13 years.
Jeanne was a true “free spirit” with many interests, foremost was her life-long love of painting pictures, especially as gifts for family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading, gardening, jazz music, and creative writing. Jeanne is survived by her sister, Sue Bartow of Concord, CA; nephew, Greg Bartow and his wife Joanne of Walnut Creek, CA and their daughters, Ellen and Melissa Bartow of Philadelphia, PA and San Diego, CA, respectively. A private memorial service will be held later by the family.
