For some reason childhood memories seem to be the most vivid, and the kids in our neighborhood had a boatload.  Andover in the 1960’s seemed to be an endless summer of anything is possible, and while we didn’t know it at the time, the endless possibilities were due in large part to our parents. Stay at home moms, and hardworking dads seem to enjoy their roles as providers, and patient proud observers, as the basketball, kickball, and street hockey games, rotated through their lawns over the years. Jim and Barbara Stamas knew all some 30 kids by name, and while we didn’t dwell on it, we knew which parents had the most patience for the neighborhood “enthusiasm”. The Stamas house, was a kid friendly place, and when the driveway was baptized with a new basketball hoop and backboard, future NBA star’s dreams had Mr. Stamas to thank. It’s not surprising his generosity, patience and kindness continued past his children’s childhood… Because when you’re good at something you stick with it. And Mr. Stamas was very, very good.

Jim was a beloved friend and colleague since he joined Omni in 1973. We remained connected as he formed his own consultancy and went on to do miracles for BU’s School of Hospitality. He was kind to everyone he knew and passionate about everything he did. Heartfelt condolences to his brother, sister, three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. While we, and so many others, are heartbroken at his death, none more than his family. May his memory always be a blessing! - Jerry Dunfey & Nadine
