“People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
But people will never forget how you made them feel”
~Maya Angelou
Jim, I will never forget how you made me feel.
I don't remember all the words and advice Jim gave me, but I remember the honest and sincere manner in which he used words and music to reach deep into my soul and unconscious mind to create feelings beyond words
If I started a list of all the things Jim did for me since meeting him at WANT in the summer of 1975, the list would have no ending
I remember how it felt the first time Jim gave me the opportunity to record a commercial at WANT
I remember mixed excitement when Jim discovered my voice and opened my soul to the essence of music and the art of listening with feeling
I remember Jim patiently teaching me how to deliver a 30 second commercial, deep from the diaphragm, without breathing
I remember Jim demonstrating when to breathe on a 60 second commercial so the breaths flawlessly became indistinguishable from the words
I remember Jim teaching me the delicate art of seamlessly mixing album tracks with two turntables and being amazed at creating my first cassette tape
I remember pure joy when Jim showed me the delight of eating strawberries on a hostess twinkle
I remember feeling touched each time I listen to the sensuous CD, “Mellow Madness” Jim gave to me
Jim I will forever remember how you made me feel
To Jim's family, I extend my deepest sympathy
Let us cherish how Jim made each of us feel special
How Jim had the wisdom to bring out the best in each of us without seeking anything for himself
Let us remember how Jim made us feel
Let us honor Jim with rainbows and sunshine and music that gently hugs you while whispering to the soul
I remember Jim telling me to "be easy" while planting his smile in my heart
Jim I remember how you made me feel
Be easy
Jim Minor
