James was smart, funny, and very kind. He was married to my cousin and after she died I saw him mostly at family events. But we stayed in touch via phone and social media, and I knew of some of his incredibly generous activities--not from him but from seeing messages to him from others. He was an impressive man. I liked and admired him.
