Dr Seibel (Uncle Hugo) was a special friend and mentor to so many of his students. His encouragement and support were invaluable to the training of an entire generation of medical professionals. His loss is immense. I am forever grateful for his guidance and friendship. May he Rest In Peace.

Meditation
At the rising of the sun and at its going down,
We will remember him.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter,
We will remember him.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of Spring,
We will remember him.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer,
We will remember him.
At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn,
We will remember him.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends,
We will remember him.
As long as we live, he will live, too;
For he is now a part of us, as we remember him.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
We will remember him.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make,
We will remember him.
When we have achievements that are based on his
We will remember him.
As long as we live, he shall live, too,
For he is a part of us, as we remember him.

Dr Seibel interviewed me for admission to VCU. I was a “non traditional” applicant because I was married with three sons. He asked if all the beds in my house were made this morning - I honestly answered “no”. He told me he would support my application and thought I would do well. He said you have to be able to prioritize the important things, and unmade beds still work. grateful.
So saddened to read of Dr. Seibel's death. He was one of a kind - a consummate educator, advisor, and "cheerleader" for hundreds of MCV/VCU students. Sincere condolences to the family of this very special man.
Dr. Seibel was a great professor, always smiling, and helped me through a difficult first year of medical school. Without his guidance and support...I would likely not be where I am today in my career. After 30+ years from my time at MCV....his influence and memory are strong with me. He was indeed always smiling and his response was most often “no problem”. Thank you Dr. Seibel.
Hugo was instrumental in bringing me into the Anatomy Department, taking me under his wing in my early days of teaching in his course. As time went on, he mentored me for following in his footsteps as course director and also curriculum coordinator. Hugo and his wife Edith each took credit for introducing me to my wife, and Hugo served as Best Man in our wedding. He will be sorely missed!
These are beautiful tributes to a man who clearly touched many lives. Our deepest sympathy to the Seibel family for their loss. We know he will be greatly missed, and fondly remembered by many people.

Dear Dr. Seibel,
Thank you for your encouragement and kindness that I have never forgotten! And, you were really funny and made the Class of 1985 laugh!
With great fondness and appreciation, Trish Clark, MD, MPH
Dr. Seibel was one of the warmest and most beloved of our professors. He enabled us to survive the challenges of anatomy with humor, kindness, and grace. The lovely ceremony he and his wife Edith held with students and families who had donated their loved ones' remains to anatomy was truly special and reminded us forever of the humanity of our patients. My deepest condolences.
Teaching at MCV was my first real job after finishing my post-doc experience. Hugo was the course director in gross anatomy, and I was fortunate to be on his staff. I have only recently learned of the his passing. There was nobody like him. Rest In Peace, my friend.
Edith,
I’m just learning of Hugo’s passing. I’m so very sorry for your loss. You guys were the best and I’m so glad y’all were part of our lives. Such good friends to my parents too. Such special memories. Sending love and prayers. Love you ??????
