I have lost my mentor, my friend and "adopted" papa to my daughters and their families. Hugh was a very special person who delighted in making a difference in other peoples lives, and having him in your life always made a difference. He was funny, loving and generous of heart and soul. He is already sorely missed but is finally at peace. Goodbye my dear, dear friend. Lovingly, Karen
I got to hang out with Hugh just a few times at gatherings with Jennifer and Andrew. I really enjoyed talking with him and could tell what a special person he was...and a bit of a character! My best to all of his loved ones!
Hugh was such a generous, kind, funny man. He opened his heart to everyone in my family. In his last few days I got to sit and talk with him about when we first really got to know one another - at Lake Shasta. It brought smiles to both our faces. He told me he was "lucky" to have so many caring people in his life - I told him, that's not luck - it's evidence of a life very well lived.
Knowing Hugh has been a pleasure. His whit and humor are sorely missed. Rest in peace friend.
Hugh as been a part of our life for 35 years, and has been an important part of our lives.
We moved from the Bay Area to Shasta and commuted every other week to the Bay. Hugh calledl me to make sure I got home safely. We would talk at least once a week. We missed him and always will. Our dear friend rest well.
The only time I smoked cigars and drank whiskey alll year. At Gry's house. Very personable guy with lots of stories and lots to talk about.

GOOD HEAVENS !
See you soon!
! I knew Hugh for about 7 years. I am a bartender at the local italian restaurant (Il Pavone), in walnut creek where he lived. I would serve the fine gentleman his Boodles and a good meal over the years. As a ridiculous American I love to fake a British accent and often practiced on Hugh. I would say he had the most HANDSOME voice I ever heard.
Its me again. I was got cut off because I always have TOO much to say. I will end with saying to this day I leave my SIRI on my iphone set to British English rather than American because it reminds me of Hugh and his class. sorry for the loss of a great man with great style!
Hugh, I miss our 4 hour lunnches at Harringtons. You are the best.

Hi Hugh,
I am so thankful to have known you and grown up with you in my life. You are such a big part of where I have made it to in life. I'm going to miss our fishing trips and long chats. I love you and know you're going to be looking down on us from up above.
love, Jessica
Dear Hugh,
I will never forget the countless nights we spent together throughout my childhood and life. I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for my family. I will always think of you when we sit down for a Thanksgiving meal or have a drink on the Benicia shoreline
I wish to express my deepest condolences for the passing of Hugh. He was a true gentleman, good friend and respected colleague. Will be missed.
When I think of Hugh I can't help but smile! I will always treasure our Friday lunches at Piatti and countless times at the Brass Door. I loved his British wit and we loved teasing him about driving on the wrong side of the road.We had so many fun times together, but now it's his time to reunite with Paula and Mary. RIP my dear friend. XOXO always!!
Dear Uncle Hugh
It was lovely to see you one last time. We will never forget the great times we had together when you came back to England and when you treated us to the best holiday we've ever had at your house. You will be sorely missed by all the family in the UK all our love.
